Sunday, Dec. 11My Morning Jacket

On first listen, you may think you’ve heard this schtick before: a sort of 1970s-styled indie band with hints of that warm, fuzzy folksy sound (think Iron and Wine, Fleet Foxes). But if you give the band a little more of a listen, you’ll find they defy easy labeling. They’re not as twee as many of their nuvo-folk colleagues, less roots rock than their hippier jam-band cousins, grungier than their power-pop competition. So what exactly are they? The Guardian described them in a recent interview as “an unpredictable evolution of psychedelic Americana” – chameleons and shapeshifters, then. By all accounts, MMJ’s live shows are epic, by the way, so if you’re at all interested in the band, don’t just buy the new album – go to this show. – Erin Sullivan (with Delta Spirit, 7 p.m. at Hard Rock Live, CityWalk at Universal Orlando; $39.50-$54.50; 407-351-5483; ticketmaster.com)
