Through Dec. 17Wanzie's Glittering Star-Studded A Christmas Carol

In a not-so-surprising turn of events-season events (it happened the last two years, too!), cherubic whirligig of holiday jeer Michael Wanzie directs and narrates his own sort of drunken Hollywood Squares piss-take on the musty old Dickens classic meant to imbue sober children with humility before plastic bliss. But, as legend has it, his cast of crazies – Carol Lee as Carol Channing (carols!), Doug Ba’aser as Rip Taylor, Gidget Galore as Liza Minnelli, Miss Sammy as Joan Crawford, gay as gay stereotype – can’t quite commit to the dodgy premise, something that results in an uproarious pratfall of frayed nerves and expelled eggnog splattered atop the 1843 novella’s plot. Imagine if the Love Boat were shaped like a Christmas tree and started sinking in vodka after slamming into a musical bathroom stall, and you will get the idea. This is how Christmas Cher happens. – Billy Manes (through Dec. 17 at the Parliament House, 410 N. Orange Blossom Trail; $16-$20; wanzie.com)
