Friday, Nov. 4Jug-ly Art & Antics

Even with the skewed interpretations found in These Hard Economic Times, the American Dream signifies, among other things, the drive to use what you have to make something of yourself, while allowing distinct definitions of what it means to be American. Tonight’s Jug-ly Art & Antics party hones in on the resourceful aspects of Americana culture with a collection of folk artists and painters who’ve taken simple, everyday objects – clay jugs, pieces of wood, cigar boxes – and crafted culturally inspired works like handmade cigar box guitars by Cigar City’s Jim Mitchell and Southern pop-icon paintings by Savannah, Ga.’s Panhandle Slim. And no worries, the City Beautiful adds its own Americana flair with a jam session by local standbys Lone Wolf, the Getbye and the Bloody Jug Band, while racy numbers by Kitschy Kittens Burlesque Troupe round out the night. – Aimee Vitek (9 p.m. at the Peacock Room, 1321 N.
