Away Mission: Orlando

Now that Spock 2.0 Zachary Quinto has finally joined George Takei aboard Starship Enterpride, adding even more cool points to the already awesome J.J. Abrams-helmed reboot franchise, the time seems ripe to go ahead and come out with pride as a Trekkie – especially if William Shatner’s “get a life” SNL scolding or silly dignity got in your way before now. This three-day geekgasm at the Hilton Orlando Resort (fancy) features appearances by Trek vets David Warner (St. John Talbot), Armin Shimerman (Rom) and Max Grodenchik (HLMGTFY), along with the lovely Jewel Staite, or as we would know her if we didn’t already follow her on Twitter, mechanic Kaylee from Firefly and Serenity, which are Trekish but dirtier. But the real draw is spotlight-stealing Patrick Stewart, who will sign your commemorative Picard “Best of Both Worlds” plates for $75 and smile for the camera for a crisp Benjamin. Hey, it’s more than you get out of Axl for that money. – Justin Strout (5 p.m.-midnight Friday, 8 a.m.-1 a.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort, 1751 Hotel Plaza Blvd., Lake Buena Vista; $20-$89; 401-488-5226; vulcanevents.com)
