Tran Ahn Hung's Adaptation of Murakami's "Norwegian Wood" Coming to Theaters Soon

As we roll into the final week of sheer torture before 1Q84, Haruki Murakami's 944 page tome about shifting reality in 1984 Japan, there is good news on the Norwegian Wood front.

After a year of  seeing it come out in many festivals and countries around the world and waiting for news about a release here, Red Flag Releasing and Soda Pictures have announced that they will release the Tran Ahn Hung film in North America in January.

Starring Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, The Brothers Bloom) and Kenichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Gantz), with a score by Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood (There Will be Blood), the film got somewhat mixed reviews around the globe, where it had to content with its viewers' memories of the beloved novel. Norwegian Wood tells the story of first love (and second and third love) during the politically tumultuous late-60s, where Japanese college campuses raged as much as American and French college campuses.
