Selection Reminder: Legoland opens today!

Saturday, Oct. 15Legoland Opening Day

Most of us have patiently anticipated the opening day of Central Florida’s newest theme-park, Legoland, for more than a year now. But for some – namely those who’ve always fantasized about piecing together, brick-by-colored-plastic-brick, an entire city made of Legos – this is a day for which they’ve waited their whole lives. It’s not the tots we’re talking about, either: Legoland gives parents the chance to vicariously live out childhood ambitions, while keeping the kiddos entertained with more than 50 amusement rides throughout the 150-acre park, along with water-ski shows, medieval Lego Kingdoms, factory tours and, at the park’s center, Miniland USA, a teeny portrayal of the nation’s most recognizable monuments and cities, including Titusville’s Kennedy Space Center. We expect to see larger-than-average crowds at Legoland, particularly during the grand opening, which may mean extensive wait times and potentially limited thrills. We know, you’ve waited practically forever for this, but you’ve already waited this long. If it means it’ll be that much better, what’s another week or two? – Aimee Vitek (10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Legoland, One Legoland Way, Winter Haven; $65; 877-350-5346;
