Monday, Oct. 10Yuck

Before Portlandia and TeenNick’s re-broadcasting of shows like All That signaled 2011 as the official start of ’90s nostalgia overload, U.K. indie-rock act Yuck made it perfectly clear with their self-titled Fat Possum Records debut, recalling Sonic Youth and Teenage Fanclub with its ’90s-mining fuzz and female-fronted casual charm and earning the group fans like Tierney Tough and Dinosaur Jr. The craziest part: They actually earn their reputation, both melodically and referentially. If you still need to be introduced, Fat Possum happens to be releasing a deluxe version of the outing the day after this show that includes a second CD (or LP) featuring six b-sides. At least one of those, “The Base of a Dream Is Empty,” is a marvel of My Bloody Valentine-era shoegaze whimsy that simply must be licensed for use in the next Spike Jonze project. It’s that sort of thing. – Justin Strout (with Porcelain Raft; 8 p.m. at the Social, 54 N. Orange Ave.; $12-$14; 407-246-1419;
