Selection Reminder: Winter Park Autumn Art Festival!

Saturday, Oct. 8-Sunday, Oct. 9Winter Park Autumn Art Festival

The peacock is a peculiar animal: Most notable for their wildly colorful feathers, peacocks tend to roam freely throughout a flock of Central Florida suburbs, unscathed by passersby or road traffic, bellowing a mating call that sounds vaguely similar to a whining cat. A longtime resident of the Winter Park area, it seems only fitting for the peacock to serve as the poster emblem for this year’s Winter Park Autumn Art Festival. In its 38th year, the annual juried art outing continues to pride itself on a showcase of 150 selected artisans (all of which are from Florida) who compete for cash prizes in eight different categories. Last year’s event drew 200,000 people, so between the art displays, live music, children’s art workshop and beer garden, you’ll have to keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for a real live peacock sighting. – Aimee Vitek (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at Central Park, South Park Avenue and West Morse Boulevard, Winter Park; free; 407-644-8281;
