Friday, Oct. 7-Sunday, Oct. 9Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend

When we hear the phrase “ultimate horror weekend,” we think of a Friday night fender bender, a Saturday unplanned pregnancy and a Sunday sighting of a nude Stan Van Gundy. But to the folks at Spooky Empire, the phrase signifies an annual congregation of scary movie screenwriters, special effects artists, cast members and merchandisers in a grand three-day celebration of the macabre. Catching our eye this year is a Q&A with the cast of the 1988 flick Killer Klowns from Outer Space, in which aliens resembling clowns suck the gelatinized bodies of their victims from cocoons spun out of cotton candy. Sick! For those of you in a more studious mood, panel discussions include “The History of Horror Video Games,” “The History of Corsets,” or “Horror Costuming 101.” Candyman Tony Todd and Hellraiser Doug Bradley will also answer questions, but unfortunately, they won’t put you out of your misery. – Jeff Gore (5 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday-Sunday at Wyndham Orlando Resort, 8001 International Drive; $30-$199, visit website for details; spookyempire.com)
