Selection Reminder: Flying Horse Editions' Letterpress Happy Hour!

Wednesday, September 14Letterpress Happy Hour

Like a lot of labor-intensive craft skills (lookin’ at you, knitting), letterpress printing – raised metal letters inked and pressed into heavy paper – has enjoyed a surge of popularity of late. Something about our daily routine of making text hit paper without even being in the same room as the machine makes a process that requires a bit of actual sweat attractive. Not only are most handmade things charming in their imperfections (again, like knitting), that extra effort expended to hand-set the type and run the paper through the press forges a connection to the end product. This open house/happy hour is a chance for the general public to see Flying Horse’s impressive studio space and actually set a little type – for a small donation, guests will have the chance to run a small “calling card” through the press. Just do the drinking after the typesetting; letterpress tattoos are not on the agenda. – Jessica Bryce Young (6:30-8:30 p.m. at Flying Horse Editions studio, UCF Center for Emerging Media, 500 W.
