Friday, August 19Alison Krauss & Union Station

How do we put this in a way that won’t oversell it? Let’s try this: Alison Krauss is a divine angel and Union Station her heavenly army. (Wow, that didn’t work at all.) It’s probably impossible to completely put away the hyperbole when talking about a bluegrass singer whose music unites people of all races, colors and creeds, and who has worked with everyone from T Bone Burnett to Robert Plant to Phish. The definition of universal, Krauss has won more Grammy awards than any other singer in history, and her jaw-dropping new album, Paper Airplane – her first with legendary backing band Union Station in seven years – may win her more, topping Quincy Jones and composer Sir Georg Solti. Awards are one thing, though. The devotion of fans from all genres and all age groups is another altogether. That’s Stevie Wonder shit right there. – Justin Strout (with Jerry Douglas, Dawes; 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Amphitheatre, 1340 A1A South, St. Augustine; sold out;
