Wednesday, August 10El Ten Eleven

Instrumental post-rockers tend to be a serious lot, usually aiming for exquisite ambience or high drama. But L.A. duo El Ten Eleven is the refreshing antidote. In terms of chops, they’re total technicians. However, they have an attitude and showmanship that’s supremely accessible, dropping a crowd-wowing cover here and there for fun. Besides, it’s worth it just to see their mind-blowing live efficiency in action: Kristian Dunn works a double-neck bass/guitar (sometimes playing both simultaneously with different hands) while Tim Fogarty works a drum kit and electronic pads, all of which are woven seamlessly through loop-layering without the aid of a laptop. The result is killer, groove-based rock designed to move bodies. On this special tour, they’re playing their celebrated 2005 eponymous album in its entirety as well as a full set of newer material.
