Haughty by nature: OPP's Swap & Shop is tomorrow!

If you’re into clothes from the '50s, '60s or '70s, then you know that finding prime vintage clothing isn’t all that easy in the city of Orlando.

That is, until Other Peoples Property came along.

OPP [insert requisite call-and-response here] is a locally owned vintage clothing shop that sells newly customized vintage clothing and accessories for both men and women. (They're also about as far from "haughty" as a clothing shop can get, but we can't resist a good pun.)

Inventory is hand-selected at thrift stores, estate sales and by donation, and then customized to fit today’s styles. Y'know, shortening hemlines, taking in waistlines (kids today – not so much with the hourglass thing), or taking off the sleeves of tops (global warming). Prices range from $5 for scarves and ties to $140 for designer dresses and winter coats.

OPP also holds clothing swaps every three months called Swap & Shop, and this is where you (should) come in. Just clean out your closet and stuff you don’t wear anymore, then swap with someone else. There is a $5 "suggested donation" to help fund the event, but swapping clothing is free. The next one's tomorrow night, so, y'know, get on that.

Still not convinced? How bout a little feel-good action?

While OPP's main goal is to reduce the amount of new clothing purchased (there's something about a "fashion footprint" in the mix), it's also charity minded! OPP donates 100 percent of the profits from select inventory to Mission of Hope (MOH) in Haiti, and 15 percent to Charity Water.

Although OPP is not a non-profit organization, “there is a heavy emphasis on creating revenue streams for giving,” Roquemore says. “Being able to support those in real need is the reason I keep doing this, not [for] a paycheck.”
