For After You See Tree of Life...

Spoilers... Don't watch this before you see it, I implore you.

So, Terrence Malick's brilliant Tree of Life opens at the Enzian tonight. If you are lucky enough to get tickets you'll be treated to quite a visual and aural experience that you will probably still be mulling over a week from now.

But here's the doosy: the birth of the cosmos scene that you saw? There isn't a shred of CGI in it.

It was created under the direction of visual effects whiz Douglas Trumbull, he of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Close Encounters of the Third King fame. He and a few other artists created it in all manner of ways, using all manner of liquids, chemicals, gasses and solids filmed at varying framerates.
