The 20th Annual Orlando International Fringe Festival wraps up this weekend, which means I'll be spending the next few days with the usual assortment of foul-mouthed drag queens and sex-obsessed monologians. But if you are looking for a different sort of freaks to hang out with for Memorial Day, there are three major pop-culture conventions occurring in town that you might want to take advantage of:

Spooky Empire's MAY-HEM: Check out page 36 in this week's print edition of the Orlando Weekly for info on this annual horror convention, which kicks off today with a cash-prize zombie costume contest. Bruce “Evil Dead” Campbell and makeup artist Greg Nicotero are the headliners for this year's event, which takes place at the Wyndham Resort on I-Drive.

Florida Anime Experience: Over at the Ramada Celebration in Kissimmee, Japanese animation fans are gathering to spend the weekend with voiceover actors Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop) and Brittney Karbowski (Soul Eater, Xenosaga). This is a new event organized by veterans of Supercon, Jacon, and Wasabi Anime conventions, and is focused strictly on Japanime fandom. Cosplay and music video contests, along with movie viewing rooms and an “Animerican Idol” performance are planned.

Oasis 24: The 24th edition of this traditional science fiction convention returns to Orlando this weekend at the downtown Sheraton. Guests of honor include author David Drake, comic artist Tommy Castillo, and filk musician Carla Ulbrich. Role-playing gaming, a charity auction, and a masquarade contest will also be featured.
