Mustard Plug proves that some people still like ska.
  • Mustard Plug proves that some people still like ska.

Think back for a minute to 1993. Try to recall your spiky bleached-blonde hair, your rad checkered Vans and matching suspenders flown at half mass; Remember how cool you were when you walked down the halls. You had all the right moves, all the right gear... only one thing, you were a total dork. If you ever considered yourself a "rude boy" or thought "skanking" was an actual dance move, now you can relive the early days of puberty in all their awkward glory because Grand Rapids, MI ska-punk band Mustard Plug is performing tonight at The Social.

20 years since their inception, Mustard Plug is pulling out all the stops by not evolving in the slightest. Whether this is a good or bad thing is completely up to you. While many "third wave" ska-punk groups searched desperately for a way to stay relevant after No Doubt became Stefani, Mustard Plug seems to have stuck to the formula. In fact, it's hard not to listen without feeling like they have been writing the same songs over and over again for those fateful 20 years. So whether you actually still like ska-punk music (not judging) or are just looking for some experience close to that of using a time machine, looks like tonight's your chance. You can thank the Social.

(with Teflon Don and Cutaway; 8pm at the Social; 54 N. Orange Ave.; $10-12; 407-246-1419)
