Selection Reminder: Those Darlins tonight at Back Booth!

Friday, May 13Those Darlins, Hot Hands, Lagues

With their dramatically retooled sound, these Tennesseans are quickly gathering a head of steam this year. And rightfully so. While their transition from rowdy country stylings to Southern punk jumps them onto the current underground train, the sharp, inspired simplicity of their pop songwriting is what puts them at the wheel of the charging locomotive. Blending girl-group charm, rock & roll attitude and sheer punk sneer with astounding ease, almost nobody is doing garage-punk with as much style and smarts as Those Darlins are right now. If you didn’t catch them opening for Old 97’s at the Plaza Live back in March before their near-perfect, direction-changing new album, Screws Get Loose, was even uncorked, then take it from us: They’re the real deal live. This time, they’ll be fully in their element as the headliner with excellently appropriate local support from Hot Hands and Lagues. This is gonna be one scrappy party. –Bao Le-Huu (with Hot Hands, Lagues; 8 p.m. at Back Booth, 37 W. Pine St.; $8; 407-999-2570;
