Teenage girl assassins seem to be all rage in Hollywood since last year when Hit Girl won our hearts with her potty mouth and the fact that she could kick the living shit out of us if she felt like it.

But writers Seth Lochhead and David Farr went the other way with their teenage girl assassin story and wrote all of the adorable bits out of Hanna, opting instead for the straight feral Wolverine-as-young-woman story. This could prove genius as Sucker Punch looks to suck the life out of pretty bad girl stories for a while now.

At first glance, the film seems like a bit of an unexpected jump to the left from director Joe Wright, as his last three films were Atonement, Pride and Prejudice and The Soloist, but the trailers look good enough to ignore this fact.

Hanna opens on April 8th. Video below.

Raised by her father (Eric Bana of Star Trek), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna’s upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.
