UPDATE: I've just learned from OMA that the For the Bible Tells Me So screening has been postponed. I'll keep you posted when/if it's rescheduled.

A confluence of great film screenings is upon us, and what better way to ring out this crappy start to 2011. Venues: We need more of these. For our sanity and junk.

First up is Sex and Fury, the Japanese yakuza/pink film featuring nuns with knives on a train and tons of other WTF moments. (It was also an inspiration for Kill Bill.) That's going down at the Geek Easy in A Comic Shop Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7:30. BYOB, as always.

Next is Night Catches Us, the stunning debut from writer-director Tanya Hamilton about a former Black Panther (The Hurt Locker's Anthony Mackie) going home again years after the movement – and the '60s – have been over. Sweetening the pot is the presence of Hamilton for a post-screening Q&A. (noon, Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Enzian)

Finally, the OMA is screening the 2007 documentary For the Bible Tells Me So, which looks at evangelical families that had to deal (poor babies) with a gay son or daughter and how they came to grips. It features that awesome footage of Anita Bryant getting a pie facial, too. (Actually, I can show you that now! See below.) Director Daniel Karslake will attend, presumably to answer questions. (2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30)

To the venues: More of this, please. To our readers, check out next week's issue for more on all of these.
