A couple things for women

Posted By on Mon, Jan 19, 2009 at 1:37 PM

For the school-aged girl in all of us, or, more specifically, the school-aged girl in the school-aged girls of Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake Counties:

The Women's Playwrights' Initiative is having their 6th Annual Script Competition. Now through March 2, girls divided into the brackets of 3-5 graders, 6-8 graders, and 9-12 graders can submit their plays about, I don't know, unicorns or Shia LaBeouf or whatever it is that girls deem worthy of stage time. (Note: The reason for this competition is to prove statements like the preceeding one wrong.)

Collaborative projects are encouraged, with the oldest collaborator determining the age bracket.

You can find the full guidelines at

Now, for an entirely different segment of women, made legally distinct from the previous group at least by age if nothing else:

Secrets of the Oral Arts: Loving His Lingam

Do I need to add anything to this? If I do, you can find it out here.

It's a class about exactly what you think it's about. The focus is on increasing the giver's enjoyment and making them less self-conscious (women only, by the way, which I find a little discriminatory, but okay). This is fine and all, nothing wrong with learning, but I almost wonder if classes like this don't add pressure rather than subtracting it. Let me just say, I think if you're doing it, you're already doing it right.

But by all means feel free to disagree. In fact, post some comments and let me know what I'm missing (on a philosophical level).

You can even do it in the form of a script. No judgment here.
