Push-polling?

Posted on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 1:53 PM

The Crooks and Liars guys are reporting that someone either with or friendly to the McCain/RNC campaign is engaging in the unethical practice known as "push polling," when under the guise of an opinion poll a campaign seeks to give misinformation to the person answering the poll.

In this case, the targets are Jews. File it under the "Obama is a scary Muslim" meme:

Key West resident Joelna Marcus received a phone call today. She was asked if she is Jewish, and she replied in the affirmative.

She was asked if she was religious.

She was then asked if her opinion of Barack Obama would change if she knew that Obama had given lots and lots of money to the PLO.

Of course, that's not true. As a cautionary note, I should say that while the C&L bloggers have a fairly good track record, this hasn't been reported as yet in a newspaper as far as I can tell, so take it with a grain of salt. Of course, if anyone around here has received a call like this, from the Republicans or anyone else, I'd love to hear from you.
