GuitarTown weirdness

Posted By on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:15 AM

In less than 10 days, the infamous GuitarTown project makes its public debut -- 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in front of City Hall.

I know this because I called the head honchos and was given the above info though I had to agree not to quote my corporate source (who was not able to e-mail the schedule to me due to computer problems).

Before the following week is over, the 10-footers in the dozens decorated by local artists should be installed around downtown, inside and out, creating "the tour" sure to delight out-of-towners. (BTW, that's a joke.)The plan calls for a city-sponsored map of the instruments so that tourists and natives can hike the historically irrelevant circuit.

The buzz is always the same: Guitars and Orlando aren't like chocolate and peanut butter: They don't mix, the flavor is all wrong.

As of this moment, despite calls and e-mails to Gibson corporate, the underwriters of the event, I still haven't received any specifics beyond what I've shared. And our deadline is tomorrow.

GuitarTown is a project to promote Orlando. How come GuitarTown organizers aren't promoting?

What have you heard?
