Bee Gees fans frequently split into two camps. Not surprising, since the disco-fied group that emerged in the 1970s bore little resemblance to the baroque popsters of the previous decade. Granted, anyone who lived through the ’70s, when Saturday Night Fever was everywhere and “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love” and “More Than a Woman” dominated the airwaves, might have felt at the time as if there were a conspiracy to brainwash the masses through overuse of falsetto. Thirty years later, however, and taken in smaller doses, “Jive Talkin’,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “Too Much Heaven” sound well-crafted without having all the life sucked out of them by the computerized perfectionism in vogue today. This two-CD collection, however, is padded with five modern remixes that do not improve on the originals.
