Tuned to Love

Tuned to Love
Label: Graveface
Length: LP
Media: CD
Format: Album
WorkNameSort: Tuned to Love
Ian McCutcheon's grim news about Mojave 3 nixing future recording sessions comes from the source; he was their drummer when he founded the Loose Salute. Tuned to Love draws from the same floppy-haired '60s popsters that Mojave 3 evidently basked in while recording their Spoon and Rafter LP, but nothing here warms as immediately as the inspired beauties that McCutcheon backed on that album; the Loose Salute's well runs dry at times. The Latin brass in 'Photographs and Ticketsâ? smacks of Love's Forever Changes, but Tuned to Love's tussle with copyright infringement springs from the more-than-a-nod-to-'Good Vibrationsâ? twinkling opener, 'Death Club.â? McCutcheon's lead vocal on 'Death Clubâ? soars alongside organ riffs and his galloping kick drum, while the gently rolling acoustics of 'Ballad of the Dumb Angelâ? finds the Loose Salute at their bare best.
