Rated: NONE
Release Date: 2007-02-06
Media: CD
Format: Compilation
WorkNameSort: 8-Bit Operators - An 8-bit Tribute to Kraftwerk
This collection of 15 Kraftwerk covers immerses the listener in a strange, swirling temporal vortex of music written by a futuristic electronic band in the late '70s and early '80s, reimagined by retro-holic musicians in 2006 using a sound palette straight out of a video game console circa 1981, with technical flourishes only available in software invented in the last five years. The result? An interesting, if somewhat overlong, exploration of Kraftwerk's signature blooping melodies and straightforward uptempo rhythms that illustrates both how far electronic music has come since Autobahn and how much it has stayed the same. The best tracks, like Bit Shifter's 'Antenna,â? or 'Trans-Europe Expressâ? by Receptors, will interest fans of modern IDM, glitch and circuit-bending, while tracks like 'Computer World,â? provided here by Firestarter, will appeal to old-school Kraftwerk fans as faithful interpretations.
