In the wake of the midterm elections, with the competing parties trying to appear bipartisan, along comes the DVD release of this documentary to remind us that some things ought to be above politics. 'Ultimately, this is really not a political issue so much as a moral issue,â? says former vice president Al Gore, whose persuasive presentation about global warming makes up most of the film. Extra features on the DVD include various commentaries, a 'making ofâ? featurette and a music video of Melissa Etheridge singing the eco-anthem 'I Need to Wake Up.â? An update by Gore offers a look at what's changed since the film's release on such topics as hurricanes, ocean acidification, wildfires, soil moisture, permafrost and other assorted good news. Believe it or not, the package that arrived with the DVD review copy was not only made from recycled and biodegradable materials, it was also embedded with basil seeds, suitable for planting. Now that's convenient.
