Can right wingers read? (take two)

OK, let's try this again with the right links that actually work:

Yeah, yeah, weâ??re always yakking away about what a great guy (by the standards of right-wing religious zealotry) Dr. Joel C. Hunter is. Weâ??ve written stories about him, run stories written by other that included him, and even inaugurated this here blog with item about him. We heart Joel!

Of course, Hunterâ??s been in the news lately because he got the hook from the Christian Coalition. Seems heâ??s always going on helping the poor, being a good steward of the Earth, living like Jesus would and other claptrap that holds no interest for the base. They want them some good, olâ?? fashioned homo hating, with a side of abortion outlawing. Hold the hippie-Jesus stuff, please.

And that makes us wonder if anyone in the Christian Coalition of America bothered to read Hunterâ??s book, Right Wing, Wrong Bird, Why the Tactics of the Religious Right Wonâ??t Fly with Most Conservative Christians? If they had, maybe they wouldnâ??t have hired the wrong guy in the first place. Right there, on page 81, is a list of â??otherâ? things Christians should be concerned about: peace, basic human rights (including religious freedom), poverty, caring for the environment, and justice.

In fact the whole book is basically a repudiation of the notion that being a good Christian means you have to be aligned with the Republican Party.

Itâ??s kind of a prophetic read, given the outcome of the recent elections and all. Just sayin.
