The lengthy Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms is a colorful, gutsy jaunt. MC/producer Oh No cut most of the beats on his debut LP (2004's The Disrupt), and his qualified production hands often one-upped his weed-praising rhymes. In a challenge that would definitely intrigue his brother Madlib, Oh No's meticulous feats on Exodus are sampled strictly from composer Galt MacDermot's work (Hair soundtrack, Kilmarnock Records). Thuggish street verses by Roc C get the help they need in sparkling piano-and-string loops on 'Keep Tryin',â? and skilled braggarts like MED & Wildchild ride Oh No's jumpy, rumbling beats on 'Keep It Lit.â? That's all well and good indeed, but when De La's Posdnuos does his thing, or when unsung storyteller Wordsworth glides along the guitar and Wurlitzers of 'Know Better,â? it sparks undeniable chemistry that would flatten competition for a collaboration effort. Believe it: Oh No's coming up fast on his older brother.
