As a DJ himself, Cheb i Sabbah is familiar with what makes for an effective remix. And, for the second time, he's allowed the source material of one of his stunning, evocative studio discs to be reworked by a raft of various remixers, all of whom comport themselves quite admirably. Given the variety of knob-twiddlers on board ' everyone from Bill Laswell and Gaurav Raina (of Midival Punditz) to lesser-knowns like MoMo and Sandeep Kumar ' this disc (just like 2000's MahaMaya ' Shri Durga ReMixed) is unsurprisingly lacking the consistent flow of the original album. Generally, the vibe here is much more aggressively percussive and, of course, club-friendly. But even when hip-hop (as on Fnaïre's remix of 'Sadats) or throbbing ambience (courtesy of Laswell) is woven into these Moroccan grooves, the exotic essence and meticulous beauty of the originals shines through.
