Four years ago, the Clear Channel-sponsored Delta Heavy tour's massive production and turnout prompted a shift in the popularity of electronic music. Legendary club DJs Sasha, John Digweed, and opener/tour co-creator Jimmy Van M dragged their equipment across the United States for nine weeks in the spring of 2002. Like promiscuous Interpol groupies, the Delta Heavy documentary deals mostly with backstage affairs. The good parts capture the endless hordes (85,000 or so) that were treated to its towering speakerfuls of progressive techno, trance and house at extremely high-grade production levels. Each Sasha & Digweed stage show is enough to send onlookers into Japanime-style seizure country, with lavish, nightmarish themes running alongside the veterans' beat-matching. Though it's revealed that Digweed's rather nerdy and some of the lovely "Airdrawndagger" was first unveiled on a silly boat gig, the Delta Heavy DVD should make some believers out of naysayers.
