Despite vocalist Shawn Gallagher's vocal worship of James Hetfield, BTE manage to combine just the right amount of assaultive riffage and neck-breaking tempos to overcome any easy comparisons. Unafraid to plow through multiple ideas within the same song, BTE avoid the monochromatic thud that marginalizes so much modern metal. Though only a handful of songs break the five-minute mark, Insect Song revels in the sort of complex brutality that warrants repeated listening.
