Best remembered as vocalist for Seattle's Truly (with Screaming Trees drummer Mark Pickerel and Soundgarden bassist Hiro Yamamoto), Roth is still quite busy. After recent collaborations with Built to Spill and Jim Carroll, he's released "Someone, Somewhere" to the tripped-out rhythm of skittering funk and loping folk-rock. "Vicki and Jacky" shoots back to '70s movie-soundtrack flirtatiousness while "The Poison Arrow" is near call-and-response rock. "Lightning & Thunder" is a waltzing example of Roth's slower side which is then turned inside-out by the synth waves of "Blackout City Serenade."
