It took 40 years for this concert to see the light of day, but the lapse provides a telling insight into a young Bob Dylan. Although his legacy was already being established, the most noticeable thing about this recording is the boyishness that's still evident in both his voice and his repartee with a fawning audience. Dylan was barely 23, and he while he seems aware of the status he has achieved, he's souring on it already, even mocking himself on several numbers. His growing distance from the folk establishment is foreshadowed in his duets with Joan Baez; the contrast between their voices is stark and Dylan's raspy delivery adds an element of realism that Baez can't approach. Some of these 19 songs were unreleased at the time, evident by the lack of audience recognition. Although not unusual, it again provides a hint at the twists his career was yet to take.
