Review - The Four Walls

Artist: Languis

Posted on Thu, Mar 18, 2004 at 4:00 AM

The Four Walls
Label: Plug Research
Media: CD
Format: Album
WorkNameSort: The Four Walls

The City of Angels has a serious sweet tooth, chewing on Dntel like bublegum, but savoring Languis for dessert. Languis' previous work unexpectedly merged minimal techno, post-rock and new wave into one disfigured package. However, this debut on the Plug Research label speaks indie-pop's well-trodden dialectics. Languis has grown out of their laptops into a full band using new wave as a starting point instead of simply re-enacting '80s posh tunes. The distant music of New Order is churned into elegantly understated songs, and Languis emerges way ahead of the electro-revival movement.
