Artist: Ani DiFranco

Label: Righteous Babe
Media: CD
Format: Album

Many "folk" artists have taken a less-is-more approach to their recordings, hopping up on a stool and singing their songs and sucking all the way. Ani DiFranco takes a less-is-more approach on "Educated Guess," but the result is tantalizingly rich and surprisingly effective in its simplicity. Recorded at home on eight-track reel-to-reel equipment, these songs are airy and open, bolstered by DiFranco's distinctive approach to harmony vocals and random atmospherics (the electric piano line that pops up on "Bliss Like This" is utterly arbitrary and completely perfect). Uncluttered and individualistic.
