Despite the title, this new disc by Da Lata is anything but serious. Deeply ensconced in a joyous celebration of high-velocity rhythm, the title track that opens the album is an organic, hands-up affair that benefits greatly from the breathless excitement of Mamani Keita's vocals. Similarly, the rest of the album finds the French duo venturing into the outer reaches of African pop as well as the Brazilian grooves that defined their last album. However, despite the preponderance of world music themes here, this is a full-on dance album, slathered with modern grooves and brooking no pretense of "authenticity." Broken beats and thick bass lines coalesce with techno-globalism. Nice.
