A darkly comic film about infidelity and latent hostility. Believing that his wife and business partner (Hope Davis) is having an affair, dentist David Hurst (Campbell Scott) descends into a festering, semi-silent resentment. In his shattered psyche, he's haunted by visions of his most difficult patient (Denis Leary), who suggests machismo-surfeited courses of redress (and looks like Brad Pitt in "Fight Club" to boot). Art-house clichés like surreal daydreams and saturated cinematography are used to surprisingly good effect. Though the movie is weak on structure, there are still enough moments of inspiration to keep us at attention.
