Review - Chapters

Artist: Amorphis

Posted on Thu, Aug 7, 2003 at 4:00 AM

Succinctly chronicling the high points of this Finnish metal institution, "Chapters" collects 17 audio tracks and a DVD with five videos. Keeping the flame alive for progressive power metal for more than 10 years, Amorphis has matured nicely, neither remaining static nor "evolving" into obscurity. The tight melodies, intricate compositions and aggressive attitude that colored early works like "Tales From the Thousand Lakes" still show up on more recent tracks, although the band has obviously grown in the interim. One disc isn't quite enough to sum up the band's history, but the DVD portion included helps make up for that shortcoming.
