Review - Comets on Fire

Artist: Comets on Fire

Thank god. The ridiculously hard-to-find debut album from Comets on Fire (released, vinyl-only, in 2001) is finally available for the widespread destruction it was intended. Blue Cheer's mammoth riff volume collides with Pussy Galore brain damage and Devo-esque freakout for a full-on psychedelic mind-shredding. Recorded straight to four-track, it's all live and it's all crazy. The group allowed some space-rock subtlety to emerge on their second album, but no such nonsense is present here, allowing the group to focus solely on blistering your skull. And, with a 30-minute live set tacked onto the end of the original nine-track album, the effect is even more brutal.
