Review - Essential Selection

Artist: Pete Tong

Posted on Thu, May 8, 2003 at 4:00 AM

Pete Tong is well into his 40s, makes a healthy living as the head of ffrr Records and "still" can't shake the DJ bug that helped him establish himself nearly two decades ago as one of the pre-eminent lights in clubland. And his continued immersion in dance culture has ensured that his finger still stays on the pulse of all that keeps the asses of the masses bouncing. This 15-track mix scrapes the cream off the underground crop, with cuts from Playgroup, Aural Distortion, Solid Groove and other DJ faves propelling the hour-plus mix. It's full-on, uptempo bliss here, culminating with Body Talk's explosive white label smash, a remix of Prince's "Controversy."
