Review - Danse Macabre Remixes

Artist: The Faint

Posted on Thu, May 1, 2003 at 4:00 AM

Bop bop bop, bop bop bop bop bop, this is Planet Earth, and so on, as unlikely Omaha natives The Faint continue their ascension from rock-style derivation to full-on dancefloor melodrama. For those not suitably decked-out and drugged-up by last year's "Danse Macabre," the band sidesteps the obvious with this phenomenally effective rehash, set in a full lip-gloss vein, and pushed to its 1981 limits with revisions from such dancefloor luminaries as Jaques Lu Cont, Paul Oakenfold and Photek. And what may seem like a huge marketing-maligned mistake on paper actually kicks plastic-panted ass; each of the tracks gains significantly from their respective treatments, forming a cohesive Saturday-night affair worthy of Giorgio Moroder's mirrored coffee table and its trappings. "I'm feeling posed to death," loops singer Todd Baechle from beneath 20 years of irony. Oh, dear. May Simon Le Bon never die. (The Faint performs at The Club on Friday, May 2.)
