Review - Gordon

Artist: Gordon

On its self-titled debut, Gordon captivates with psychedelic-pop music that invokes euphoria through abstract lyrics, beefy Hammond organ and atmospheric keyboards. The group's more obscure numbers drift off into opiated rhythms and beats that weave in and out of consciousness.

The first single, "Fortified Grapes," kicks off the disc with the bewildering chant of a chorus: "Fortified grapes from a lemon tree/ taste better than animosity." The reassuring ode to lost love "Better Daze" is both emotive and optimistic. "Could Be Worse" is a fun, Beatles-inspired flashback with plenty of modern-day touches. Overall, Gordon has crafted beautifully arranged songs that have an almost dreamlike quality -- a dream that doesn't always make sense.
