Label: Sony

Format: Album

With the recent wave of passionless pop running up and down the charts like an outbreak of the bubonic plague, it's nice to hear a slightly different perspective, and Diana King delivers. The diva soared to popularity last summer on the strength of her cover of the Burt Bacharach classic "I Say a Little Prayer." While that song is included here, "Think Like a Girl" is a little more hip-hop and a lot more soulful than most top-40 albums.

King has added a reggae aspect to her luscious repertoire that is felt throughout the CD, and a horn section adds to the fun on "Love Yourself" and "Supa-Lova-Bwoy." All of the songs are co-written by King, except for the Bacharach tune and a cover of "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me." Who would have thought covering a Culture Club song could help reinvigorate passion in the world of pop?
