No. 1 in student athletic fees, that is. A committee has proposed raising the annual fee by $102, to $297. If the Board of Regents approves the increase, UCF's full-time students will have the largest fee among the state's 10 public universities.
School officials knew that their quest to create a dominant football team would be expensive for students. But national rulings regarding equitable disbursement of the fees between male and female athletes have created a larger-than-expected expense. For every new dollar spent on football, another must fund a women's sport. UCF plans to create three new women's teams in the next few years.
