The Downtown Business Coalition's first foray into city politics ended with mixed results for its chosen few./p>
In District 1, Dack Cole lost to incumbent Don Ammerman, despite leg work, endorsements and about $10,000 from the coalition. District 3 Commisioner Bruce Gordy, who accepted only endorsements and mentions in coalition advertisements, won easily, as expected. And Daisy Lynum, who received more than $3,000 from the group, advanced to an April 14 runoff in District 5.
Still organizer Jon Marsa says the group will stay in politics. Club owners need Lynum's vote to win reconsideration of the 3 a.m. closing time enacted by City Council, which effectively pulled the plug on downtown's internationally recognized late-night dance scene.
Marsa says he remains committed to helping Lynum, although his future with The Club, on behalf of which he fought the city, remains in doubt.
"There are some changes going on," he says. "They've not been solidified."
