Solids
Blame Confusion
Fat Possum
★★★ (out of 5 stars)
Fans of Japandroids, go ahead and ready a fresh change of underwear. Because of their near-identical approach and sound, this new Montreal duo will be your next mad, instant, all-consuming crush. And you’re gonna lose it as soon as you press play. Heavily influenced by the glorious noise-mongers of the ’90s American underground, Solids burst forth on this debut LP with sky-shooting melodies mainlined by the octane of distortion and feedback. Across comets like “Over the Sirens,” “Off White,” “Through the Walls,” “Traces” and “Cold Hands,” the propulsion and pulse is constant throughout. Without question, Blame Confusion is one-note, but it’s hard to mind when it’s one this sweet, heart-firing and perfectly played.
