Rescue effort undermined

Operation Rescue will not go unchallenged when its traveling band of protesters show up in Orlando around the time of Gay Days at Walt Disney World during the first weekend of June.

Bob Kunst, the Miami-based gay activist who led the grass-roots movement that took on and toppled Anita Bryant in Dade County two decades ago, has contacted the Orange County Sheriff's Office seeking permits and sites for counterprotests. Operation Rescue, he wrote in his letter to the sheriff's office, is "just one of the vigilante groups obsessed with everyone else's sex but their own."

Kunst currently is attempting to organize a boycott of visitors to the Cayman Islands, where ports of call recently have refused entry to cruise ships carrying large groups of gay and lesbian tourists.
