City Commissioner Don Ammerman is pushing for Orlando to begin broadcasting city council meetings on public access television within 90 days.
The reason? He says his constituents keep asking why Orlando meetings aren't on the tube. "I don't have a good answer for them," he says.
Ammerman began looking into televised council meetings five weeks ago. But he says the city is still far from having everything they need in place. He's asking city employees to research equipment purchases and lease agreements with cable channels.
The smart move would be a deal with Orange County's government access channel, Orange TV, whose administrators have said they would accommodate Orlando meetings into their schedule.
Says Ammerman: "This is long overdue."
