'The Divergent Series: Insurgent'

The Divergent Series: Insurgent: Hey, whaddaya know? One of these Hunger Games wannabes actually made it all the way to a sequel! In Divergent 2: Detergent, our young heroes have to come to terms with their past while fighting for their lives in what remains of Chicago. What desperate measures did their parents take that drew the ire of the totalitarian elite? I'm guessing they failed to vote for Rahm Emanuel in the runoff, because God knows that guy can hold a grudge. (PG-13)

The Wrecking Crew: When I was learning to play music, there was a column I enjoyed in Guitar Player magazine called "Pickin' on Me," in which session great Tommy Tedesco shared tales from his lucrative career as a studio musician. I found it positively inspiring to know that I might one day be able to score similar backup work, should my nearly foolproof plan to attain fame and fortune at the top of the charts hit an unexpected, long-shot snag. Now it's almost 40 years later, Tedesco is dead, and there's a documentary about the legendary work he and his fellow musos did on recording after recording. And if I can fish enough change out of my sofa, I might be able to go see it. (NR)

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead: While we wait in seemingly eternal dread for that Mad Max reboot, Australia offers up a postapocalyptic road saga that manages to work in another favorite grindhouse trope: zombies! Yes, it's the undead making life hell for motorists in this kitchen-sink shocker, which started its life as an IndieGoGo project and ended up one of the 10 most stolen flicks on PirateBay. There's a moral in there, and you may not have to swallow an actual brain to figure out what it is. (NR)
