Official reeferences

Pro pot forces got a boost last week when the Oakland (California) City Council deputized the local marijuana club. The Oakland Cannabis Buyer's Cooperative is under a temporary restraining order won by the U.S. Justice Department, which argued that California's "medical marijuana" law violates federal law. The council, under a provision of the Controlled Substances Act that exempts from prosecution municipal officers acting as part of their drug enforcement duties, dubbed the club's members "officers."

Here in Florida, the Coalition Advocating Medical Marijuana marked the 10th anniversary of a Broward County Circuit decision to find a glaucoma patient not guilty of marijuana charges because of "medical necessity." The judge in that case, Mark Polen, called marijuana prohibition "callous to the most basic of all human rights: the right of self preservation."
